Epiphany
“Then [Nehemiah] said to them, ‘Go your way, eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions of them to those for whom nothing is prepared, for this day is holy to our LORD; and do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.’”
Nehemiah 8:10

“The joy of the LORD is your strength.” That tells us something important about how this God will be with us and for us. This will not be a relationship built on fear or the fickleness of the world’s gods. To be with this God is to enter more and more deeply into the eternal, tenacious, rebellious Joy that made all things, and called it very good.

When the world offers fleeting happiness, orient our lives to Your joy, that we might plumb the depths of it. Teach us to rejoice in You always. For the sake of Your joy, we pray. Amen
