“When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed; this must take place, but the end is still to come. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. This is but the beginning of the birth pangs.”
Mark 13:7-8

The culmination of creation and the return of Jesus will not come quietly. Anyone who has travelled the journey of labour and delivery knows well the upheaval and battle that precedes new life. Jesus warns his followers that the new heaven and earth will also upend the world as we know it. In looking toward the future, Jesus teaches, “do not be alarmed.” God is at work bringing new life.

Help us focus on You, Jesus, and take to heart Your admonition to not be alarmed. Though we be surrounded by hazard and danger, let us trust in You. Amen
