Advent
“But you, O Bethlehem of Ephrathah, who are one of the little clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to rule in Israel, whose origin is from of old, from ancient days.”
Micah 5:2

We expect that those who are trying to assert their power would do so bombastically, or violently, or would inflate and present themselves larger than life. But God doesn’t do that. Like pointing at one single star in the sky, Bethlehem is the small, unexpected spot upon which we are to fix our gaze in anticipation. From the outset, God intends the way in which we are oriented—toward the humble—altering our expectations of who and how God is with us.

Majestic God, we magnify You. Remind us to be as little children, the small ones You cherish, the meek ones You love. With mustard seed-sized faith, help us apprehend Your power and might in the tiny ways that You reveal Yourself to us. Amen
