Advent
“Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, ‘Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body you have prepared for me; in burnt offerings and sin offerings you have taken no pleasure.”
Hebrews 10:5-6

The body of God—the swaddled newborn that we wait to receive this season, the broken man on the cross that we remember in the breaking of bread and drinking of wine, the hopeful gathering of the church in the world that witnesses to his life, death, resurrection, and reign—is our mutual delight with God. Jesus is God’s pleasure that we are to make our own, desiring what God desires, loving what God loves.

God of All, You want the whole of our lives, and not just our best efforts and good intentions and ideal circumstances. Thank You for receiving us, our present selves in the presence of You. We ask that You mend us, heal us, restore us in body, mind, and spirit. We pray for others in need of Your comfort and care. We open our hearts in joy to Your will and the call of Jesus, in whose name we pray. Amen
