Advent
“‘And why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? For as soon as I heard the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord.’”
Luke 1:43-45

We may agree with God when the idea is good, we may acquiesce to God when the outcome matters only a little to us, we may “let go and let God” when we’ve exhausted our efforts, but we may not always believe that there will be a fulfillment of what God says to us. Mary’s obedience is more than allowing God to take over—doesn’t the Almighty have the power to do that without our consent? Mary’s obedience is knowing the sound of God’s voice speaking to her, trusting that God is true to that Word, and believing that what God says to her requires her participation. Faith isn’t about getting out of God’s way but about getting in on God’s way.

Steadfast God, grant us the courage and conviction to trust in You. Kindle in our hearts a joyful flame of faith. Open us to hear Your voice and believe in Your Word. Amen
