Lent
“So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!”
2 Corinthians 5:17

The apostle Paul, who wrote this to the Corinthian church, was not into making improvements. The Christian life is not one of getting better, becoming a smarter, more moral, or even more loving person. In Christ, the Christian dies with Christ; in Christ, the Christian rises to new life. It really is a new life we live. The old has died; we are a new creature, a new creation. Everything has become new. I know that past failures and disappointments, sins and shames, tell you otherwise, that you live bound to them. But it is not so. By rising with and in Christ we have been set free to live in the newness of life. Everything has become new!

You are creating a new heaven and a new earth; the old has passed away; all is made new! Thank You for welcoming us into newness of life, where the past might enrich us but not enslave us, encourage us but not hold us down. Your future beckons us forward. Praise be to You, O Coming One! Amen
