Lent 4
Lent
“Then the father said to him, “Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and has come to life; he was lost and has been found.” ’”
Luke 15:31-32

There is one phrase Christians should never say: “What’s in it for me?” (there’s a lot in it for us—life itself!). But once we start asking that question, suspecting that God might have given inadequately, doubting when God tells us, “You are always with me, and all that is mine is yours,” then we have lost all perspective. When we focus on ourselves, we fail to see that “there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.” If we want to enter the joys of heaven, we need to keep our view on the other, rejoicing when the dead find life and the lost are found.

We are grateful for all You have done for us. Even more, we celebrate when a lost one is found, when a wanderer finds true home, when a captured addict finds release, when a bitter soul finds joy in Your embrace. Amen
