Lent
“When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then it was said among the nations, ‘The LORD has done great things for them.’ The LORD has done great things for us, and we rejoiced.”
Psalm 126:1-3

One of the great joys of life is observing the joy of others. When others can’t hide their broad smile or stifle their laughter, when their eyes sparkle and their feet just want to dance, it’s infectious. Joy elicits joy. The joy of Israel when they return from exile to their homeland with its familiar hills and streams and streets just gushes out in this song, “like those who dream.” The LORD has done great things, and the joy floods out so even we, a world and millennia away, are swept up in it. Joy is an unsurpassed witness to the great things the LORD has done!

We offer our laughter and our gladness, our shouts of joy, to You, wonderful LORD. You have, indeed, done great things for us, yes, but also for others. Our joy is multiplied because it is shared and amplified by the joy of others, by all those who, in their own varied, vibrant ways, see and celebrate Your marvellous love and salvation. Amen
