Easter
“You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God, I will extol you. O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.”
Psalm 118:28-29

Worship naturally comes to mind as one of the ways we extol (lift up) God: praise is part of our prayers of approach, in many of the hymns we sing, and the Biblical texts we read aloud. Here, the Psalmist is clear that it’s God’s steadfast love that prompts praise. For Christians, this steadfast love of God continues in the life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus, who suffered for us. Interestingly, part of the Latin word extollere comes from the Proto-Indo-European (PIE) tele- "to bear, carry." We also extol God when we enter into and bear the suffering of others, that their burdens might be lightened and their freedom to praise God ensured.

Thank You for Your steadfast love that endures forever! May we extol You with our prayers, our hymns, and our loving actions. Amen
