“‘I ask not only on behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.”

Did you know that here Jesus directly addresses you? We are those who believe in Christ Jesus through the word of all those saints who have come before us. In his long prayer on the night he was betrayed, Jesus is asking for protection for his disciples, and that we be made holy in the truth of God’s word and united in the life of the Father and the Son. This is so that the world might also come to trust in who Jesus is and thereby be drawn into life that is truly life. May we do our part in continuing this witness!

We ask as Jesus has asked for us: for Your protection and courage as we share with others the joy of life with and for You. Amen
