Easter
“When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.”
Acts 2:1-4

Jesus’ death, resurrection, and ascension are the beginning of the completion of God’s creation, of bringing heaven and earth together. So it is significant here that it’s “from heaven” the Holy Spirit is poured out on the gathered disciples. The disciples are empowered by God to go out to all the world to announce and witness to the new thing that God is doing. This is still the calling of the church, and it’s still empowered by the Spirit of the resurrected and ascended Christ Jesus, until God gets the world God intends. How might we participate in this calling today?

We are grateful that You equip us still to bring Your good news to our communities, to our friends, to our families, to our enemies, and even to ourselves. Enliven us, encourage us, inflame us with love of You and of our neighbours for the sake of Your beloved world. Amen
